Support Us

We’re in the business of helping others.
But sometimes we need a little help of our own.

Legal Assistance of Dakota County (LADC) provides free legal help to low income residents of Dakota County.

LADC helps families with cases such as custody, rights of unmarried parents, divorce and grandparent custody.

LADC needs your financial support.

LADC is a private, non-profit organization.

The need is great.

More than 30,000 people in Dakota County, mostly women and children, have incomes low enough to qualify for free legal help.

Dakota County has the fourth largest number of people living in poverty in the  State.

LADC receives over 2,000 calls per year from people needing free legal help. The volume of calls increases each year.  The current bad economy means even more people need help.

LADC family law representation saves money.

LADC saves state and county dollars by reducing or eliminating the family’s need for public assistance.

LADC can help the family find custody solutions to reduce or eliminate the need for county child protection cases.

LADC helps get quick and fair child support orders. As little as $100 per month received in child support can decrease the number of families returning to public assistance from 30% to 10%.

LADC family law representation protects children.

Children receive protection from abuse when custody orders are issued, restricting contact with the abusive adult.

Children grow up better, and do better as adults, when their family is stable, when their basic economic needs are met, when they can go to the same schools, and when they are protected from abuse. Legal representation to the parent can help with this  stability so court orders sort out the financial, housing and custody rights and responsibilities of the parents.

LADC family law representation reduces domestic violence.

Many LADC clients are victims of domestic violence.  Legal services help women with practical matters such as protective orders, permanent custody and economic support, or divorce. This gives women real, long-term alternatives to abusive relationships.

LADC family law representation stabilizes families.

Family instability, abuse, deprivation and school instability are risk factors in producing violent crime.  Family law representation reduces those risk factors.

LADC family law representation helps families out of poverty.

For many, a quick fair child support order means neither parent need live in poverty

LADC obtains quick and appropriate child support orders.

LADC has the support of others; now it needs your support.
